week 10
Hi everyone,
Me, Myk and Hayley attended yesterday's meeting, so just a quick post to get Shaz and Joe up-to-date.
1. We went through the powerpoint Myk had put together, using everyone's work so far. There are still quite a few gaps where work hasn't been submitted, but so far it's about 8 mins long, and looks great.
2. We all worked through the "sociolinguistics" part together, and I am going to do the voice over for it.
3. Myk should now have received Hayley's and Shaz's voiceovers.
4. We are waiting for Joe to send his Corrie data, so it can be analysed, and incorporated into the presentation. We need to do a slide for his findings, the analysis, how this proves/disproves our hypothesis, and then incoporate this into the conclusion too. If the data isn't received by tomorrow, we need to edit everything to do with Corrie out of the presentation, which means re-doing voice overs, and going through the presentation and taking it out, which is a pain. Fingers crossed he gets it to us in time.
5. Depending on Joe's work, we should be on target to have the presentation completed for Monday, so we can all watch it in the meeting (Mason, 4pm) and just make sure it's all ok. :)

Hi everyone, just a quick update on what is going on at the moment. I have analysed the results from the questionnaire data, and have done the powerpoint presentation. This will be emailed to Myk shortly, I will also do the voice over of this today. At the moment, Hayley and I are in the library compiling our discussion of these results. Once this has been completed, I will start researching relevant theorists who have written around the topic we are investigating. This research will be presented via powerpoint, and emailed to Myk. Myk, if there are any amendments you would like for this data, let me know.
Thanks
Shaz

my progress
hey everyone
Just a quick update on my progress because you won't hear from me now until Monday.
1. I have sent Myk my powerpoint slides for "method". I have sent along with that, my voice over to play along side the slides, and the commentary, just in case you can't hear properly and he needs to add subtitles. (I used my laptop recording system and it seemed ok when I played it back.) Myk: If you need me to record anything else let me know by Sunday night and I'll have it recorded for you by Monday night.
2. I have collected Shaz's and Hayley's data, and sorted through it. I have done a couple of diagrams and a bar chart, just simple enough to get the point across. Shaz: take a look and see what you think. I have sent them to your hotmail account.
Hope you're all getting along ok with your tasks. Joe, just in case you haven't had the reminder, Myk is still waiting on your Corrie data, he needs it by Friday so he can put it all together over the weekend.
See you all at the next meeting: Monday, week 10, 4pm, Mason :)

Update
Hi everyone
As only me, Shaz and Kerri-Anne attended the meeting today, we need to make sure that everyone's completely in the loop with what work needs to be completed. The deadline is approaching, and we need to get this presentation together.
Shaz is attending the drop-in session with our questions.
Could you get in touch with me over the next few days, Hayley and Joe, so I can fill you in on what work you need to have finished by the end of the week?
Thanks,
Myk

Week 7
What we have done:
- Decided on our question
- Collected secondary research to help illuminate our topic of choice
- Written an initial draft of the Group Learning Agreement
- Met as a group and discussed our feedback on it, making a final revision which was published in Week 3.
- Revised our question.
- Met as a group and distributed research tasks.
- Had another brief meeting to ensure data collection was on track.
- Consulted secondary research more specifically.
What we need to do:
- We are meeting next week to ensure all data has been collected.
- Organise a longer meeting in which data will be collated any analyse.
- Compare our conclusions with those of the secondary research and discuss why these are similar/different.
- Produce our presentation.

clarify
Hi all,
So just want to check we're all on the right track...
Erm, we've changed our original question to something more specific and less broad. I believe, from reading Alison's suggestions, that our research topic will focus on one soap and the use of good and synonyms. We will then ask a group of people aged between 18-22 say, and ask them if they have a preference to what word they would use (if any). We could also possibly use the "missing word" scenario? So we would describe a situation, context etc of a clip of the soap and then ask them what they think the missing word is? Is that right? Or any other suggestions?

Our Research Topic
"Do pre-existing linguistic stereotypes generate a realistic perception of how different social groups use the word 'good' and its synonyms?" or something to that effect?
We want to study a few different social (stereotypical) groups and see how they use the word 'good' or a synonym such as 'sick', 'bad', 'wicked' etc and how they use these in different environments, such as at work, college, home, or with friends.
We aim to use research methods:
1. questionnaire/interview
2. corpus
3. examples from tv/media
4. secondary material including books, internet sources.

Meeting 2
As arranged after our first meeting last Monday, we will meet again in the same slot next week to finalise our question and begin the writing of our joint learning agreement. If anybody can't make it, let us know in advance please!
Please bring the relevant literature to the meeting so we can all have a look at the studies before we make our final decision.
